STRIKERS 3, FIREBALLS 2

In one of the most exciting back-and-forth games of the season, the Fireballs dropped a tough one to the Strikers 3-2. Despite the loss, the game featured a number of positives that the team can build on going forward.

First and foremost, in their first use of the revamped 3 x 1 x 3 formation, the difference was striking. The new defense was designed to clog up the opponent's scoring chances and it had the desired effect. Another highlight was the strong effort put forth by Brian Tapia in his debut as a goalkeeper. As for the offense, Daniel Xiong scored his team-leading 7th goal on an excellent, unassisted effort to force a 1-1 halftime tie. Then late in the game, trailing 3-1, Tyler Lynch sent a beautiful pass behind the defense which Zane Moore took advantage of to score his 4th goal, bringing the team within 1.

Overall, it was a great team effort that bodes well for the remainder of the season.
